This image was made while camping this weekend with my family and some friends in the Sierra National Forest just outside the Ansel Adams Wilderness. We had a wonderful time and I got a few opportunities to make some images that I'm very happy with. Hope you enjoy.

  1. John,

Really nice shot. What gave the water the deep blue color? White balance adjustment?

  2. Hi Jeff, Thanks for the comment and for the link on your blog.

As you've probably noticed, the log and water are predominantly in deep shade. I used the daylight WB setting which cools down shadows quite a bit but the blue patch is also from the clear blue sky reflecting in the water. The darker edges are caused by the trees on either side of the creek blocking the sky from the water. Hope this helps.

  3. John,

You've done some really incredible work here with just about the same gear that I use. It's an inspiration to an old fart like me!

    Keep posting.
